Boston Harbor overview

Downtown Boston abuts Boston Harbor meaning docks and moorings are just minutes from all the attractions. Walk to the North End for world famous Italian food and bakeries. Follow the red-brick Freedom Trail to all of Boston’s historically significant sites. Sports fans won’t want to miss a Red Sox game at Fenway Park. Shop-a-holics will love Boston’s Newbury Street which is lined with upscale shops and restaurants. And finally, every boater should walk the path along the Charles River Esplanade. Or better yet, row, scull, canoe, kayak, or sail on it.

Best time to visit Boston marinas by boat

The best time to visit Boston by boat is between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The days are long and sunny with temperatures in the 80’s or 90’s. While it does get humid, the temperature is always manageable along the waterfront.

If you can time it right, visit during Boston Harborfest which typically runs between July 1-9. It’s a weeklong festival that celebrates Boston’s maritime and revolutionary history. Highlights include a boat parade, fireworks over Boston Harbor, numerous historical site tours, and live music every day.

Some fun things to do around Boston Harbor

Faneuil Hall Marketplace

Faneuil Hall was originally a meeting place for Patriots prior to and during the American Revolution. Today, it’s home to over 70 shops and restaurants as well as world class street performers. We recommend grabbing a lobstah roll or chowdah from the food hall and then finding a spot outside to take in a performance.

Fenway Park

If the Red Sox are in town, you can’t go wrong with catching a game at Fenway Park. Being the oldest active ballpark in the MLB, it’s got a lot of quirky features like Pesky’s Pole in right field and the green monstah in left. While you’re there, make sure you grab a fenway frank and Sam Adams beer.

New England Aquarium

The New England Aquarium is located right on Central Wharf. Inside you will find a 200,000 gallon ocean tank in the shape of a cylinder. As you walk the spiral designed ramp down and around the tank, you will see thousands of aquatic animals including balloonfish, sea turtles, and sharks. Be sure to also check out the popular Atlantic Harbor Seal exhibit which is actually located outside on the Central Wharf docks.

Harborwalk

Depending on where you dock in Boston, you might be right along the harborwalk. This public walkway follows the edge of piers, wharves, and shoreline around Boston Harbor. Follow the path to such attractions like the New England Aquarium, Long wharf, the North End, and the USS Constitution.
