4 New England Events to Get You Out on the Water

Published on 5/6/15 10:30 AM
The dreary days of winter are over and the warm weather is upon us, which means it’s time to start getting your boat ready for a spring launch. We’re here to give you a few ideas about some upcoming events in New England that should motivate you to start getting that boat sea ready sooner rather than later. Most boaters don’t need an excuse to get out on the water. However, we just want to give you a little extra push so you can enjoy as much time out there as possible.

Volvo Ocean Race

We talked a bit a few weeks ago about the Volvo Ocean Race and its only North American stop in Newport, RI. The best in sailing come out every year to race around the world for the opportunity to be called the best on the water. Come out and see a part of history made as the first all-female team, Team SCA, is scheduled to make port between May 7th and May 9th. There are events for all ages, so be sure to get the whole family on board!

Nantucket Wine Festival

As long as you have a designated sober captain, wine and boating go hand in hand. The Nantucket Wine Festival in Massachusetts has five days (May 13th-17th) of more than 50 different events that will highlight the best in New England wine. There’s even a Bordeaux & Burgundy VIP Experience that gives ticket holders the chance to live the life, even if just for a day, of a sophisticated wine aficionado.

A Taste of Bar Harbor

New England has long been known for the delectable seafood that is harvested from its waters. From May 14th-17th, A Taste of Bar Harbor in Maine will give seafood lovers the best in traditional flavors in one of the most beautiful states on the upper East Coast. Satisfy even the most discerning of palates with everything from a dessert competition to a Chef’s Table dining experience that is hard to beat.

44th Annual Figawi Race Weekend

From May 23rd to May 25th, the Figawi Race Weekend is the perfect opportunity to get out on the water. Even if you don’t plan on entering the race yourself, there will be more than 3,000 other sailors and visitors that plan on attending. If you get into town early you can attend the Kickoff Party at the Hyannis Yacht Club. Guests can register for the race, enjoy some live entertainment, and purchase exclusive Figawi merchandise. Otherwise, head into town early Saturday morning to watch all the boats line up before the race starts at 10am. If you make it out to the island, look for the Dockwa team. We'll be sponsoring the event to celebrate our official launch and will be handing out some official Dockwa gear. Don't be a stranger!

To be honest, you probably don’t really need a specific reason to get your boat out on the water. However, sometimes it’s nice to get out of town for a while. These four events should give you all the reason you need to drop anchor in a New England port you’ve never been to before.
